Buchla 200 analogue modular in action
The touch keyboard is working as one 16 note sequencer while the smaller 5 x 4 sequencer makes the other sequence..
This colorful video features sound artist Charles Cohen improvising on a 1970's Buchla Music Easel. This extremely rare instrument is one of Don Buchla's 200 series. Buchla (a pioneer of audio synthesis) only manufactured 14 of these units. The entire film was edited from an hour-long set of free improvisation, with audio was taken directly from Ch...

READ ME FIRST: The Moog - Buchla Piano Bar uses infrared sensors -- a flashlight let us play it in real time! A brilliant alternative controller designed by Don Buchla and the late Bob Moog. The black keys on my piano were too short - I couldn't get it working properly on my piano. But enjoy what we were able to do with a flash...
Rare 1970's Modular Oscillator running through a Plan-B Vactrol Filter and Gate. There are Vactrols (components that mate LED's with audio for natural acoustic tones) in the Osc so this makes a close to vintage complete Buchla sound. The Osc sounds like nothing else I've heard with it's waveshaping and altering of harmonic structure of the wavefo...
Some more buchla.
The chords are set up by the 5 x 4 sequencer which is just triggered from the 4 touch plates on the left. The sequence is one oscillator sequenced from the main touchpad.
My Buchla-inspired MOTM format (prototype) of the Buchla 292 Lopass Gate. I used the VTL5C4 (slow) Vactrol for the circuit. I love the rubbery texture and fat response of the unit. It is a Don Buchla design per a Peter Grenader translation on Matthias's Fonik Modular website with a Mark Verbos resonance mod and some small personal touches. More inf...
I took the new synth in today to get some adjustments done. While I was there Peter Grenader, the genius behind the PlanB modules showed me some tricks and how to properly use some of these modules thus opening my mind up to the Buchla philosophy of synthesis. It was such a great experience meeting the man behind the instrument, almost like a mode...
Demonstration of patching a Buchla 200 Modular Synthesizer. This is a video for my lecture at the Producers Conference in Atlanta this weekend.
Here is the first of 2 new videos of my Buchla 292c Lopass Gate clone project. These PCB's will be available on a limited run through the www.electro-music.com forum. Check it out if you are interested or catch my at my Youtube mail here for more details. Thanks for stopping by!
a variation of the filter mod patch. all audio from the 200e but going through the 111 ring modulator. the 123 is choosing pitches of the 261s mod and principle oscillators along with the keypad.

"Here's a little clip from the DVD Better Living Through Circuitry by Jon Reiss.
The clip is of the DJ Heather Heart and has a brief but nice panning shot of what looks to be a pristine Buchla Music Easel."

Alessandro Cortini discusses the Buchla 200e synthesizer. Part two of two.
My friend Chuck found this old patch chord Buchla in a dumpster, we figured someone could only get fart sounds and threw it in the garbage. After talking with Bob Buchala himself and getting new chords, it was able to be brought back to life and was used on Hollow Earth's song - Atomic Playboy
Last time I posted this video I got harassed with offe...
Luther Rochester generates some nice organic tones on his Buchla Music Easel at AHMW 2007.
i did this when i first got the 200e. The stages of the 250e are being selected by the random The The stages of the 250e are being selected by voltages from the 266e. The tip of the sonic iceberg that is the 200e and the lovely uncertainty that Don so thoughtfully provided us! The old SFTMC 100 is helping
A Buchla 200e and Buchla 100 being controlled by a Genoqs Octopus. It's a wonder i get anything done in my life. i could easily spend the rest of my days in front of these beautiful machines. sorry for the crappy audio...i'll post more when i figure out how to do it .

3 channels/sounds in play - the gothic/doom-sound, the electronic buzz pattern (not from sequencer), and a low bubbling noise you can't hear well until it catches the echo. note how the 4-channel mix patterns (controls in upper left) affect how each signal is echoed without changing the analog echo controls.
this is same patch as the 'non-sequencer loop rhythm' but after 5 minutes of evolving/tweaking -- then got heavy with the malekko analog delay. apologies to King Tubby.
