A Georgian reconnaissance drone was detected in South Ossetian airspace on Tuesday. It was spying there in violation of existing agreements, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, told a media briefing on Wednesday. He added it seems that Georgia is not planning to give up its aggressive intentions.

On Friday, August 8, Georgia launched a military offensive against its breakaway republic of South Ossetia. Artillery shelling and tanks have reportedly reduced the region's capital Tskhinvaly to ruins. Russia has sent its army to help peacekeepers stop the violence.
