A very moving scene in which Mimi tells Marcello she is desperate for believing Rodolfo jealous. However, Rodolfo expects losing her by her death approaching fast and upon Mimi overhearing this, emotions run high. A scene in which deepest love for each other and mutual despair are combined. Fatal destiny is pushing Mimi slowly to her grave..

Three scenes after another: Rodolfo feeling the loss of his dearest, Mimi returning to him to die in his presence and the final cry "Mimi" after her death. The last part I included for the clever way Puccini orchestrated this moment, summing up the whole love story in one powerfull surge of emotion.

Although Rodolfo and Mimi now know that the end of their relation is in sight, they pretend to part in the right spirit. "Only when flowers are back again and the snow gone" they'll part. The two aria's are full of love and forgiveness and their contrast with Marcello and Musetta argueing is particularly striking.
