A Georgian reconnaissance drone was detected in South Ossetian airspace on Tuesday. It was spying there in violation of existing agreements, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, told a media briefing on Wednesday. He added it seems that Georgia is not planning to give up its aggressive intentions.

The president of South Ossetia claims mercenaries took part in Georgia's offensive against the breakaway republic, according to Russia's RIA news agency. Eduard Kokoity says Ukrainians, people from the Baltics as well as nationals from other countries were involved.

Georgia says this footage show a Russian MiG-29 jet destroying an unmanned reconnaisance aircraft in its air space. Russia has denied the allegations and questioned why Tbilisi would be flying such an aircraft over the breakaway region of Abkhazia.
